Mischief in creative practice (2022)
Hello!
Whether we call it mischief or perhaps punk, playfulness, danger or risk - how might we harness the permissions of creative space to find where the excitement lies? How can we get and stay excited about a project from conception through to realisation and beyond? I will be discussing mischief as a creative energy, drawing on a multidisciplinary practice as a theatre artist and (mischief) maker. In a given project, what are the opportunities for mischief? How do we create “a smile in the mind” (a term borrowed from visual design)? How can we take our playfulness seriously and what is the benefit of such an approach? How can we balance this technique with other, more profound, more truthful creative effects we’re aiming for? Thinking about space, form, story, audience, expectation and context, & drawing from theatre, music, writing and visual projects as well as an approach to workshops. Consider this a workshop and a manifesto for mischief. This session would be relaxed throughout, providing the opportunity for you to ask as many questions as you like.
